The Brief
This short film was created as an assessment in October 2024. As this was a solo project, my creative role was that of director, cinematographer, and editor.
The task was to create a short film of a minimum of three minutes, based on a chosen genre and target audience. The assessment prompt was to “complete a developed media product from a design and plan using a range of conventions.”
I collected feedback from my peer group and family members, utilising a survey, to solidify my film’s narrative and what my audience will be most interested in. The responses from the survey allowed me to build a narrative around a teenager struggling with monotonous days and a technology addiction. My audience was largely that of other teenagers, but also young adults who feel like they’re struggling to find a productive routine in an age of evolving technology. I explored a range of conventions, such as diegetic and non-diegetic audio, composition, lighting, and composition in making this film.
Pre-production planning was also essential in this assessment, and so I utilised a concept and treatment plan to explore what my narrative would be and how I was going to enact my narrative.
